Broadband Planning on the West Coast

August 15, 2014

As plans for the deployment of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) continue to move forward, so does the need for broadband planning support for the nation’s public safety community.  Over the past year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) has provided 49 workshops in 53 States and Territories to support them in preparing for consultation meetings with FirstNet, which is charged with the development of the network.

Lafayette Group, in support of OEC’s Interoperable Communications Technical Assistance Program (ICTAP), headed west this August to provide broadband coverage planning support to Washington State, California and Nevada.

During the workshops, Lafayette Group staff provided briefings with detailed maps and information designed to support each State in establishing individual coverage objectives and to identify future users for the NPSBN.  The information was designed to help prepare each jurisdiction to prepare for future consultation meetings with FirstNet set to take place over the next year.

Lafayette Group, on behalf of OEC-ICTAP, will continue supporting States and Territories as they prepare for these meetings and continue their overall planning in the years to come.
