Lafayette Group Demonstrates Communications Simulation Tool

October 1, 2016

Lafayette Group supported Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) Technical Assistance Branch’s demonstration of the Response Interoperability Simulation Tool (RIST) at the DC Office of Unified Communications (OUC) during a one-day Communications Rally on Thursday, June 23, 2016. The demonstration began with an overview of OEC and the Technical Assistance program. The Lafayette Group subject matter expert provided a presentation explaining RIST and showed a sample video used to provide a briefing for RIST players during an exercise or training event. Following the presentation portion of the demonstration, all OEC and ICTAP representatives conducted a short scenario using RIST to simulate a response by DC Metro Police and DC Fire & EMS to reports of smoke in a DC Metro Station. Upon conclusion, OEC and Lafayette subject matter experts representatives addressed questions from the audience.

The event also included a small number (4-5) of communications vendor exhibits that provide various services or support to the OUC. OUC had recently completed construction of a public safety communications training lab designed to support various 9-1-1 center Call Taker and Dispatcher training activities. A ribbon cutting ceremony and media event was scheduled during the rally to accommodate the grand opening of the training lab.
