The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) is required to consult with local, state/territory, tribal, and federal public safety entities in order to ensure that the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) is designed to meet the needs of public safety across the Nation. As part of this consultation effort, FirstNet requested specific information from all 56 states and territories to better inform the Request for Proposals (RFP) and the eventual state plans. States and territories collected data on their Coverage Objectives, Users and Operational Areas, Capacity Planning, Current Providers / Procurement, and State Plan Decision Process. The data was due on September 30, 2015, and allowed FirstNet to gain insight into each state’s and territory’s unique public safety broadband network needs.
As part of its ongoing programmatic support, Lafayette Group assisted FirstNet in the data collection effort. FirstNet analyzed the data; held a call with each state to ensure understanding of the submission and the states’ objectives; and developed a comprehensive, nationwide view of coverage objectives and potential users for the future network. This monumental effort underscores FirstNet’s commitment to the public safety community to understand their coverage objective and user needs across the nation.
