New York MCC Meeting

July 15, 2016

The Lafayette Group supported FirstNet in its participation in the joint meeting of the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA), Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), and FBI National Executive Institute Associates in New York City, April 25-27. FirstNet is the first nationwide broadband network dedicated entirely to public safety. In attendance on behalf of FirstNet were CEO Mike Poth and the Director of Consultation Dave Buchanan, as well as several FirstNet Board Members. During the MCCA plenary session, Mr. Poth provided an update to the chiefs on FirstNet progress and the importance of public safety leaders being prepared for the network that is coming to all of their states and cities.

Additionally, the Lafayette Group coordinated one-on-one meetings between FirstNet and some of the Police Chiefs to prepare them for the upcoming discussions with their public safety leaders. Atlanta Police Chief George Turner and Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger both shared how valuable they found the Metro Engagement and leadership briefing documents they had received. In turn, they encouraged other chiefs to consider hosting these sessions in their own cities.

The Lafayette Group also supports the delivery of the FirstNet Metro Engagements that are taking place around the country now. The joint meeting gave FirstNet an opportunity to learn more about how police agencies are using data in their operations, including the advanced data applications being used by the New York Police Department that will benefit from the dedicated capacity of the FirstNet network.
